It’s hard to believe that I am actually in that post world ward II baby boomer generation, I certainly don’t feel that old. Many of our new patients currently come from that pool of retired folk who want to keep their teeth for the duration of their lives.
One of the things I am noticing is that many of these elderly people suffer greatly from dry mouth. This affects their dental health and their overall health as it sets up a firestorm of problems for people. They are at risk of the epidemic of what we are seeing now called “Root Caries” or “Root Cavities”.
Many are on medications that cause dry mouth, of which there are over 400. Many love their acidic beverages, coffee, tea, and flavored mineral waters that all have high acidic content which compounds the problem. Many tell me point blank that they are unable to “kick the habit”.
The lack of saliva means that they are unable to buffer the acids in their mouth making it impossible to get the ph back to a level where we see remineralization of the teeth, instead of the constant demineralization. This causes high caries rates and destroys the tooth and roots making it high probability they will lose many teeth or require very expensive dentistry to repair the defects.
Dry mouth is a horrible problem for patients to endure and it is suspected that more than 25% of people likely suffer from dry mouth and are at risk for caries.

It is formulated with prescription level 1.1% sodium fluoride (5000ppm) in a mild mint flavor. The really great thing about this product is it uses a next generation glycolipid surfactant that is milder on mucous membranes than SLS or CAPB making it far more comfortable and safe to use.
